SINGAPORE : Share prices ended 0.2 per cent weaker on Monday, weighed down by losses on regional markets.

The Straits Times Index fell 7.03 points to 2,874.33.

Volume totalled 1.027 billion shares valued at S$957.4 million, with losers leading gainers by 262 to 189.

Dealers said shares in Hong Kong and China were pressured by lingering worries over fresh monetary tightening measures by Beijing.

Investors were also wary ahead of rate-setting meetings at the US Federal Reserve and the Bank of Japan later this week.

Analysts said markets are sensitive to possible liquidity changes as they await monetary policy cues from the two major central banks.
