SINGAPORE: Purification technologies provider Norit said it is in talks with the Economic Development Board (EDB) to start a research and development facility in Singapore.
This would be its first R&D hub outside of Europe and US. But Norit declined to provide further details, saying negotiations are currently underway.
The company hopes to have an outcome in about six months.
Norit disclosed this as it opened a new Asia-Pacific headquarters in Singapore to manage its growth in the region. It is aiming to have Asia account for 30 per cent of revenues in five years, from around 20 per cent currently.
Norit supplied the seven high capacity vertical pumps for the pumping station in the Marina Barrage project.
The barrage, built by the national water agency PUB, creates a freshwater reservoir to boost local water supply, acts as a tidal barrier to avoid flooding and offers water-based recreation in the city centre.
