MD of Pacific International Lines named Personality of the Year

SINGAPORE: Shipping veteran and Managing Director of Pacific International Lines (PIL), S S Teo, has been named this year's Seatrade Personality of the Year.

This is the top accolade in the Seatrade Asia Awards, organised by trade publishing firm Seatrade.

Mr Teo started his shipping career with his family-owned business Pacific International Lines in 1979.

He is also chief executive officer and President of PIL's unit Singamas Container Holdings, Hong Kong.

He holds several government and industry appointments, including President of the Singapore Shipping Association and a Nominated Member of Parliament representing the commerce sector.

Receiving his award, Mr Teo thanked his partners, associates, colleagues and family members for their guidance and support.

Also honoured at the awards was Seatrade Young Person of the Year, Andreas Sohmen-Pao, the chief executive of BW Group.

The Deal of the Year award went to a US$631-million (S$863.36 million) group refinancing facility with Korea Gas Corporation (KOGAS), secured by Standard Chartered.

KOGAS is the world's largest importer of liquefied natural gas.

All in, a total of 20 awards were presented at the event Monday evening.
