SINGAPORE: Singapore will form a group made up of private sector representatives to develop the Singapore-Sichuan High-tech Innovation Park.
They'll do so with their counterpart from Sichuan.
The project will involve building a 35-square-kilometre development for modern manufacturing and services uses.
A Memorandum of Understanding to seal the collaboration will be signed in Singapore later this month when the Sichuan Party Secretary Liu Qibao visits.
In a news release, International Enterprise Singapore (IE Singapore) says the Singapore consortium will also sign a separate Memorandum of Understanding with Chengdu Hi-Tech Zone.
This will set the parameters of collaboration and commit to a joint feasibility study for the project.
Currently, some 30 business representatives from Singapore from 22 Singapore-based companies are in Sichuan on a four-day visit till September 4 to study the opportunities there.
IE Singapore says bilateral trade between Singapore and Sichuan stood at US$345.16m in the first six months of this year.
This is a 75.3 per cent jump compared to the same period last year.
For the first half of this year, Singapore's actual foreign direct investments in Sichuan also grew by 75.9 per cent on-year to US$210.94m. - CNA/fa
