SINGAPORE: Jurong Port handled fewer containers in 2006.
It moved 816,000 standard containers or twenty-foot equivalent units, the industry's standard measure.
This was down 10.5 percent compared with 2005.
The port operator said the decrease in throughput was due to the loss of a customer in mid-2006.
Jurong Port said it had since signed up new customers which should bring its throughput back to previous levels soon.
The contraction in throughput came at a time when the dominant port operator PSA reported that its Singapore terminals handled a record 24 million TEUs for 2006, up 7.6 percent on year. - CNA /dt
