Tiger Airways gets nod to fly to Brunei

SINGAPORE : Tiger Airways has been granted a permit by Brunei to fly to its capital city, Bandar Seri Begawan.

The Singapore budget carrier said on Wednesday that details of the service from Singapore to Brunei, which will be its 21st destination out of the city-state, will be available in coming weeks.

Tiger Airways, which is 49 percent owned by Singapore Airlines (SIA), has been rapidly expanding its network in the Asia Pacific region in recent months.

Last month, Tiger announced the launch of flights to the Indian cities of Chennai and Kochi, starting in October.

It also announced the setting up of an Australian subsidiary earlier this year as part of plans to launch domestic flights in that country.

Tiger Airways, which began flying in 2004, connects Singapore with destinations throughout Southeast Asia and with China as well as to the Australian cities of Perth and Darwin.

The budget carrier is owned by four shareholders, including SIA and investment firm Temasek Holdings which holds an 11 percent stake. - AFP/ch
