SINGAPORE : Anwell Technologies has formed a joint venture with a Chinese partner to make and develop silicon thin-film solar modules.

The Chinese partner, which it did not name, will invest US$7 million for a 10 per cent stake in the venture, which will have initial production capacity of 40 megawatts per annum.

The new plant will be located in Henan, China. It is expected to be ready by the fourth quarter of Anwell's financial year 2008.

The market share of thin-film technologies is expected to rise to 20 per cent of the total Photovoltaic (PV) market in 2010, up from 5 per cent in 2007.

Thin-film PV is projected to grow by a compound annual growth rate of 70 per cent from 2007 to 2010. - CNA/ms
