Domestic wholesale trade in S'pore up 25.4% in second quarter

SINGAPORE: Singapore's domestic wholesale trade rose 25.4 per cent in the second quarter compared to last year.

Latest data from the Singapore Department of Statistics showed that most sectors reported higher domestic sales.

Compared to the first quarter of the year, timber, paints and construction materials were up 22.7 per cent.

Industrial and construction machinery improved 21.1 per cent.

Foreign wholesale trade, which include domestic exports, re-exports, transhipment cargo and offshore merchandise, also outperformed the same period last year.

Compared to a year ago, most wholesale sectors saw double-digit growth.

Food, beverages and tobacco achieved higher turnover of 94.8 per cent in the second quarter from last year. - CNA/vm
