SINGAPORE: Electronic payments provider NETS has teamed up with several neighbourhood merchant associations to get more shoppers into the heartlands.

Between September 13 and 21, over 60 retailers at Ang Mo Kio, Bedok and Toa Payoh will offer special discounts to NETS users.

Other promotional activities will also be held to attract approximately half a million people who live in these estates.

It is the first time NETS has joined hands with neighbourhood businesses, and the initiative is expected to boost sales by about 15 per cent.

Retailers said the partnership will also help defray higher business costs.

On a separate note, NETS confirmed that it has received a few complaints about businesses that passed on the NETS transaction fee to consumers. This is not allowed and the company will be looking into the complaints.
