SINGAPORE: Singapore and Japan have signed an agreement to expand air services between and beyond both countries, according to a statement from the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) on Friday.
The agreement would nearly double the number of passenger flights that Singapore carriers can operate to Tokyo.
The expansion also allows carriers from both countries to operate unlimited passenger and cargo flights between Singapore and all Japanese cities.
Under the new agreement, Singapore carriers will now be able to operate passenger flights beyond Osaka and Nagoya to the United States, while Japanese carriers can operate passenger flights beyond Singapore to India and the Middle East.
CAAS said that the expansion of air services is a strong reflection of commitment by both countries to provide a liberal framework that will facilitate greater trade, tourism and exchanges between the two countries.
Eight airlines currently operate 288 weekly scheduled flights between Singapore and nine cities in Japan.
