SINGAPORE: Tourist arrivals to Singapore continued to fall for a third consecutive month in August, impacted by the global economic slowdown.
The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) on Tuesday said that there were 842,000 visitors in August, a decline of 7.7 per cent compared to the same period a year ago.
Visitors from Indonesia, China, Australia, India and Japan accounted for almost half – 48 per cent – of total arrivals.
Despite the lower arrivals, hotels reaped some 3.5 per cent more in room revenue as the visitors stayed longer.
STB said that while the tourism sector is likely to fall short of this year's target of 10.8 million visitors, it is strengthening its efforts in increasing tourism spending to achieve the tourism receipts target of S$15.5 billion.
