SINGAPORE: SingTel says Mitsubishi Electric Corp has won a contract to build a satellite for a SingTel joint venture with Chunghwa Telecom.

The deal is valued at around S$200 million.

SingTel says the satellite will be delivered by 2010 and will replace another satellite that will be retired in 2011.

SingTel holds a 62 per cent stake in the joint venture, while Chunghwa holds the remainder.

The new satellite will be used for fixed and mobile satellite services, and other information technology services.
