SINGAPORE: Singaporeans from all walks of life are coming together to help the needy, one brick at a time.

Students and staff from St Anthony's Canossian Secondary School are taking part in the nation-wide "We Are One" project.

With each LEGO brick representing a donation of S$2, together they donated some 970 bricks amounting to almost S$2,000.

The nation-wide project is a corporate social responsibility project involving LEGO, Capitaland and MediaCorp.

Over at Ion Orchard, celebrities and members of the public were present to get a piece of the action, with Singapore's favourite contractor Phua Chu Kang played by actor Gurmit Singh supervising a LEGO construction site.

"It is also part of me as a Singaporean to help other Singaporeans to raise money. We are trying to raise one million dollars, not easy, but can be done," said Mr Singh.

A single brick, like a single person, can only do so much, but together there is strength in numbers - and that is what the project hopes to do by helping Singaporeans as they come together as one.

The project hopes to raise S$1 million for the needy, with the proceeds going towards the Community Chest and the President's Challenge 2009.
