SINGAPORE: CaseTrust has suspended 16 private education organisations from its education CaseTrust scheme.

The move came after the 16 failed to put in place a Student Protection Scheme or SPS facility.

In a statement, the Consumers Association of Singapore (CASE) said it had been monitoring a group of accredited schools closely after NTUC Income withdrew as an SPS provider on November 1 to make sure the schools put in place an alternative provider.

However, despite serving a number of advanced notices and reminders via letters and phone calls to these institutions, 16 of them were found to be without this protection.

So CASE went ahead with the suspensions to protect the interests of new students.

These schools will not be able to recruit new international students during the period of the suspension.

Three schools have since put in place the student protection facility and their suspensions will soon be lifted. - CNA/vm
