SINGAPORE: A 60-year-old businessman was sentenced to six months in jail by a district court for causing the death of a pillion rider while driving under the influence of alcohol.

Tan Siam Poo admitted to causing the death of customer officer Norazirah Ajis when he lost control of his vehicle while driving along the Pan-Island Expressway in October last year.

The 25-year-old woman died on the spot, while the 39-year-old motorcyclist suffered minor injuries.

Tan is appealing against the sentence and is out on a S$15,000 bail.
