Three Colombian men have been arrested for theft at Changi Airport.

Five cases of theft have occurred at Terminals 1 and 2 since February 10th 2006 so police mounted an operation involving plainclothes officers at both terminals.

The three suspects were detained at 10am on Saturday morning as they were on their way to board a flight to Hong Kong.

Cash, 25 pieces of gold jewellery and two mobile phones were recovered from the men.

Two of the suspects were in Singapore on social visit passes since February 8th 2006, while the third suspect arrived in Singapore last Monday.

The three men will be charged in court on Monday.

Commander Airport Police, Superintendent Christopher Ng, advises the public to ensure they keep a watchful eye over their bags and belongings at all times at the airport.

He added: "Leaving bags and other items unattended creates opportunities for thieves to succeed. It also poses a security risk." - CNA/ch
