MALAYSIA: The Malaysian government is hoping to attract 10 million Singaporean visitors under the Visit Malaysia 2007 campaign.

As part of efforts to boost tourism by 15 percent, Malaysia intends to have a street carnival as well as a musical fireworks competition.

Almost 80 percent of all tourists to Malaysia last year were from the ASEAN region and the country is confident it can attract 20 million tourists altogether this year.

There are already some 200 events planned throughout the year.

And Malaysia is also hoping to bring in more Thai tourists as numbers have been dipping recently. - CNA/so
