SINGAPORE: The Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority has destroyed 11 consignments of salted duck eggs shipped to Singapore.

The eggs were found to contain the banned dye "Sudan Red".

Most of the eggs had come from China over the last two months.

Importers say as a result of the ban, the supply of salted eggs has dropped by 90 per cent.

The price of a salted egg has gone up by around 50 per cent, from about 22 cents to 35 cents.

Importers are now trying to source more eggs from Malaysia and Vietnam. – AFP/yy
