SINGAPORE: Come 1 April, the Car Park Label Scheme (CPLS) for the disabled will be revised.

The eligibility criteria will be relaxed so as to allow more people to apply for the label.

Under the scheme, label holders can park at designated lots that are wider than normal lots.

There are two types of labels.

Class 1 is for disabled drivers while Class 2 is for those ferrying disabled passengers.

With the revisions, caregivers who are not family members can qualify for a Class 2 label.

Eligibility will also be extended to vehicles registered with Voluntary Welfare Organisations.

Class 2 label holders can also park at the lots for an hour, giving them more time to help their disabled passengers.

Another change is that applicants will be allowed to display a maximum of three vehicle numbers on their labels.

Currently, they can only have one number.

On top of that, from next month onwards, the scheme will be administered by the Disability and Information and Referral Centre (DIRC), a one-stop information and referral agency.

The revisions were made after a review conducted by the National Council of Social Services, together with related government agencies.

Over 500 label holders were consulted in focus group exercises.
