SINGAPORE: The Health Sciences Authority (HSA) has found Western medicinal ingredients in two Chinese proprietary medicines.

"Zhen Feng Da Brand Xi Tong Wan" (Batch No 060908) was tested to contain Indomethacin, which is a substance controlled under the Poisons Act.

It is an anti-inflammatory agent but may also cause gastric bleeding, serious skin reactions and blood disorders.

Another Chinese proprietary medicine, "Wellring Brand Yin Qiao Jie Du Tablets" (Batch No 51005) was found to contain Paracetamol.

An overdose of Paracetamol may result in liver damage.

HSA reminds suppliers and importers that it is an offence to sell or supply Chinese proprietary medicine containing Western medicinal ingredients.

The public is advised not to consume the affected batches of Chinese medicine and to seek medical advice should they feel unwell. - CNA/yy
