SINGAPORE: The Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) has announced the formation of the National Grid Advisory Council.

Led by Mr Richard Lim, Chief Executive of the Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA), it aims to lead enterprises in adopting Grid Computing, which is a service for sharing computer power and data storage capacity over the internet.

Grid Computing allows for the creation of virtual supercomputers and is regularly used by the research and development community.

IDA says the service will create huge IT cost savings and benefits for many industries.

It is working with government agencies and industry players to increase the adoption of Grid Computing, starting with key economic sectors such as life sciences and digital media.
