SINGAPORE: One of the biggest global events of the year - Live Earth! - will take place this Saturday.
MediaCorp Channel 5 will broadcast 24 hours of the event from 7pm onwards.
"Live Earth" is a concert using music to engage people from around the world to combat global warming and climate change.
It will be broadcast to more than two billion people worldwide.
One of the celebrities taking part is 19-year-old singer Robyn Rihanna Fenty, an international singer from Barbados who is best known for her powerful vocals.
The artist stopped by Singapore en-route to Tokyo, one of the seven cities hosting the concerts, and said in an interview, "It's a great opportunity. I think it's a wonderful event. It's for a great cause and it's an honour to be part of it. The significance is to make people very aware of global warming."
"Live Earth" aims to inform people globally about the climate crisis the world is facing.
"I just wanna encourage you all to tune in to 'Live Earth' and to be green," said Rihanna.
Singaporeans are also encouraged to wear green over the weekend to show they care about the environment.
MediaCorp TV Channel 5 will start the broadcast of "Live Earth" from 7pm on Saturday, 7 July.
Channel U will also be showing "Live Earth" from 9:30pm on Saturday. - CNA/yy
