SINGAPORE: Police have busted a syndicate and a major distributor of fake consumer goods after a 13-hour operation.

Five people were arrested in raids at Ang Mo Kio, North Bridge Road, Defu Lane and People's Park Complex on Wednesday.

More than 8,500 counterfeit products, including leather bags and wallets worth about S$300,000 were seized.

The five arrested, aged between 31 and 51 years old, include three foreigners.

Police said the syndicate had operated illicitly from make-shift stalls at trade fairs in the heartlands.

It was found that a major local distributor had been supplying them with the goods, which consist of fake luxury and sportswear products.

Investigations are continuing.

The offence carries a fine of up to S$10,000 per article (maximum S$100,000 for all items), or a jail term of five years, or both. - CNA/yy
