JAKARTA: Singapore's Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew, who is on a six-day trip to Jakarta, took time out to see two former heads of state on Thursday.

The first stop was a private visit with former Indonesian President Suharto at his residence in the capital.

Mr Lee was accompanied by his wife, Mrs Lee.

Mr Suharto appeared to be in good health - spending half an hour with his guests before sending them off.

The last time the two men met was during Mr Lee's visit to Indonesia last year.

Since stepping down from office in 1998, Mr Suharto has been declared unfit to stand trial for alleged corruption.

But recently, prosecutors filed a civil suit against the social foundation he founded during his presidency to recover billions of dollars alleged to have been misappropriated.

The Minister Mentor also met former President Megawati Sukarnoputri at her residence.

According to Ms Megawati, Indonesia's political situation was among the topics discussed during their half hour meeting.

As head of the opposition party, PDI-P, Ms Megawati is expected to run again in the next presidential election.

She lost in the 2004 elections to General Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono - who is currently serving his third year in office. - CNA/yy
