SINGAPORE: Ahmad Ibrahim Secondary School – the pilot school for visually disabled students to learn alongside mainstream students in Singapore – marks the 40th anniversary of its Open Education Programme this year.

It shares more in a video clip that was submitted for MediaCorp News' Roving DV competition, where students shoot, edit, script and narrate a news clip involving their school.

The school, which now has 17 visually handicapped students, offers enriching programmes to aid them in their four to five years of secondary education.

Stephen Chin, Principal, Ahmad Ibrahim Secondary School, said: "I think at AI, we really want to help our VH pupils to be contributing members of the society. We look beyond their handicap to make sure they get life skills and are independent in the future. And we do lots of programmes like dragon boat racing. These are the things that we hope they can actually learn."

Student Amanda Chong said: "I felt that the life skills lessons were very educational because even though I knew how to do certain things, Ms Ng taught me how to do them safely. So it was really good."

Student reporter M Ganeshwari said visually handicapped students are treated just like any other normal students at Ahmad Ibrahim Secondary, except they are given a little more attention.
