SINGAPORE: A 15-year-old girl was found dead in a flat in Marsiling on Saturday night.

Police have classified the case as murder and have arrested her step-father.

Neighbours said they heard a commotion at Block 24, Marsiling Drive on Saturday night.

"Only heard a scream between 9pm and 9.30pm, that's when one of the family members came out to ask for police number," said a neighbour. The family said someone had fainted, claimed the neighbour.

Ong Pang Hui was confirmed dead by paramedics when they arrived at the flat.

Police arrested her step-father, a 45-year-old Singaporean, at the scene but did not find any weapons.

The girl apparently sustained shoulder and neck injuries.

A family friend said the girl, who had just completed her Primary Six Leaving Examinations (PSLE), and her mother had come from Jilin in China five years ago.

"She's a really good girl, helps her mum take care of her younger brother. No one expected this," said the family friend.

The deceased's mother is said to be running a beauty salon and married the Singaporean four years ago, and have a four-year-old son.

Channel NewsAsia understands the couple had divorced recently and the mother moved to Marsiling together with the children.

The step-father, who is a private bus driver, is expected to be charged in court on Monday. - CNA/ir
