SINGAPORE: As of 10pm on Monday, 22 women and 9 men are still standing on day three of the MediaCorp Radio Subaru Impreza Challenge.

Scorching temperatures and Sunday night's thunderstorm took a toll on the contestants. Ten people quit during the three-hour rainstorm that started around 11pm.

Despite the rain, some friends and relatives stayed and offered encouragement until day broke.

"Everyone was quite depressed. (It was) quite cold, and the rains were heavy," said a supporter, Pang Wei Shyang.

Two nights without sleep have also led to exhaustion and even hallucinations in some cases.

"I had seen a fire in front of my hood, then my palm. I almost moved out… but something (told) me ‘please don't move out’… because you are in the contest," said Roel, a contestant.

Besides the contestants, many of the supporters have also stayed up to spur on friends and relatives.

Mr Rajasegaran, who has been keeping his wife company throughout the competition, said, "I was here for the past three days. I just go back to shower and I'll be back in one to two hours time."

But still, there are contestants who have found their own ways to lift their spirits, dancing through the night. - CNA/ac
