SINGAPORE: A Buddhist Art Museum here is aiming to build a world Buddhist museum in three years' time.

Nei Xue Tang said it has already raised the required 100 million Singapore dollars needed to build the museum.

And in its collection, there are five artefacts donated by a 114-year-old Buddhist lama from Sichuan, China.

The artefacts donated include his personal items such as his personal robe and painting, as well as historical items such as a candle stand dating way back to the Tang Dynasty, a set of robes from the 16th century and a reclining Buddha made from white jade.

"It's about the collection. It is all-encompassing. We exhibit Buddhist artefacts and antiquities from different regions, different countries, different traditions. This is why we set forth to say that it's a world Buddhist museum," said Nei Xue Tang’s founder Woon Wee Teng.

In preparation for the project, Nei Xue Tang at Cantonment Road will be closed. - CNA/ac
