SINGAPORE : Say no to binge drinking - that is the message a group of Nanyang Technological University (NTU) students want to convey in a campaign.
The campaign will run throughout the festive period till next February.
Dancing and drinking of alcohol are a familiar sight at nightspots.
But a group of students want to send out a message that vomiting as a result of consuming excessive alcohol is not appealing to the opposite sex.
Danny Tan, NTU undergraduate, said: "We noticed that more and more young people are overindulging in alcohol, particularly in drinking spirits and hard liquor... and we think that it's really not glamorous for (a person) to be caught dead drunk outside a club, when actually... a night out in town with (their) friends can be a fun and exciting experience if (they) drink in moderation."
A website was recently launched at Zouk to mark the launch of their campaign.
Forty campaign ambassadors were also tasked with spreading the message of not binge-drinking.
Destiny Ong, Campaign Ambassador, said: "It's nasty seeing someone lying down vomiting and things like that... so if you want to have fun, lose yourself to music, lose yourself to the place, lose yourself to your friends, like having fun, not just alcohol."
The student ambassadors also took the message to Orchard Road.
Jae Loh, NTU undergraduate, said: "To tell people not to drink, you are taking a moral high ground, and so, we feel that to ask people to drink in moderation would be a good approach to talk about this issue, put it out to the youths..."
The event is jointly organised by Asia Pacific Breweries Singapore (APBS) and supported by nightspots like St James Power Station, Ministry of Sound, and Timbre.
Roadshows will be launched next month in tertiary institutions.
