SINGAPORE: The tourism sector is making a big push to attract job seekers at Career 2008 & Education 2008, now ongoing at Suntec City.
Industry players are joining hands to create awareness about job opportunities and growth in the sector.
These include the Singapore Tourism Board, Tourism Management Institute of Singapore, Singapore Hotel and Tourism Education Centre, Marina Bay Sands, Singapore Zoo and Jurong BirdPark, and Suntec Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Dilys Yong, advisor of the organising committee, said: "We have a very big presence of the tourism pavilion. The aspects come from the hotel industry as well as the Marina Bay Sands. They come in a big way to recruit the employees that are needed for their companies."
More than 600 organisations from 30 different countries are taking part in the fair - with 23,000 job opportunities and 50,000 course vacancies.
There's also a special booth set up to help job seekers who are 45 years of age and above.
Danial Chong, coordinator of the Silver Talent Pavilion, NParks, said: "We also noticed that the greying population are increasing and because of that we understand that a lot of (them) still want to come back to society to work.
Apart from that, they still have the ability and the talent to contribute to society."
