The Institute of Technical Education (ITE) has topped the 22nd Annual Micromouse Competition held at the Applied Power Electronics Conference (APEC) in Austin, Texas.

It beat 19 other contenders from USA, South Korea, Japan, India and Singapore at the competition on 25 February 2008.

Singapore submitted 13 entries, four from ITE and nine from Nanyang Polytechnic.

ITE's winning mouse, Excel-5, clocked a record time of 10.4 seconds.

Its creator, Khiew Tzong Yong, is a Higher Nitec graduate in Electronics Engineering from ITE College West.

He is also a Technical Support Officer in ITE and coaches micromouse enthusiasts in his college.

In fact last year, under Khiew's guidance, Lin Zhi Yuan was placed third in the same micromouse competition. - CNA/ch
