SINGAPORE : Police have arrested a man believed to have cheated at least six elderly job-seekers of mobile phones in exchange for jobs as cleaners.
Victims were told to sign up for mobile phone lines as part of the job requirements.
After they had done so and bought the new mobile phones, the suspect would take the phones and promise to return them the next day when he brought them to their new workplace.
But that never happened; the mobile phones were sold for cash instead.
The 38-year-old Chinese man was arrested on Friday and will be charged in court on Saturday with cheating.
Police believe there may be others who have fallen prey to similar scams and have urged them to lodge a police report if they have not done so. - CNA/ms
