SINGAPORE : Virtual Map, the company behind streetdirectory.com, was back in court on Thursday. It made an application to appeal against the High Court's decision last month, when it lost its appeal over a long-standing copyright feud with the Singapore Land Authority (SLA) over online maps.

The High Court had thrown out Virtual Map's appeal, with costs, on March 25. The court had also upheld the injunction granted by the District Court prohibiting Virtual Map from reproducing SLA's street directory maps and from distributing or selling reproductions of the maps.

Virtual Map on Thursday went to the Court of Appeal in a final attempt to reverse the decision.

Lawyers from both sides have sent in their written submissions. However, the case has been adjourned till April 21 so that Virtual Map's lawyer can take directions from the company.

The lawyer for Virtual Map is basing his application for leave to appeal on three areas - an apparent error in the trial, a question of general principle established for the first time, and a question of public interest. - CNA/ms
