SINGAPORE: A Sembawang Town Council officer was physically assaulted by a resident while he was conducting his checks on Tuesday.

The town council said the incident took place at a ground floor unit at a block of flats at Yishun Ring Road.

The 42-year-old officer was investigating a case of rabbit cages obstructing the walkway.

It is believed the cages belong to a 59-year-old technician who had been given several reminders since February to remove them. However, he had insisted they did not belong to him.

The technician then hit the officer with a golf club.

The officer was sent to Tan Tock Seng Hospital when he complained of headaches and dizzy spells. He was later discharged and given three days of medical leave.

The technician was arrested but later released on a S$2,000 bail.

Sembawang Town Council said this was the first time any of its officers had been attacked while on duty. - CNA/vm
