SINGAPORE : A new resource centre, aimed at boosting IT security in Singapore, was launched at ITE College East in Simei on Tuesday.

Students will be trained as entry-level infocomm professionals and they will be able to develop security applications for Singapore and the region.

The new centre will also double up as a hub for small-medium enterprises (SMEs) which need information on risk assessment services. It will also have laboratories which will conduct feasibility studies and technical evaluation on new security solutions.

Some 160 students have signed up for the new Higher Nitec in Network Security course, which begins this week.

The new centre is called the "ITE-HP Infocomm Security Resource Centre". It is a collaboration between the Institute Technical Education (ITE) and Hewlett-Packard (HP).

Both partners will jointly develop the infrastructure of trusted information communication. HP will provide consultation and overseas staff training, as well as a three-month attachment for the students.

Students will graduate with a joint "ITE-HP UNIX Certification in IT Security".

ITE says this is in line with the government's iN2015 Masterplan, a 10-year initiative to grow the infocomm sector. - CNA /ls
