SINGAPORE: Sichuan natives working in Singapore are concerned about the safety of their families.
Several chefs from Sichuan are anxious to get updates from their loved ones following Monday's earthquake. Some have even taken urgent leave to fly home.
Chinese Embassy officials here said those who wish to get in touch with their families can contact them. The embassy will also help anyone who wishes to make a donation to relief efforts.
The embassy said it has received hundreds of calls from those offering help and donations to victims of the quake.
Wu Jun from Suining, Sichuan, said: "I can't stop worrying. The first thing I wanted to do was (to) call home, but I just can't get through. Until last night at about 9, I got through for a minute before the line was disconnected. Still, I felt relieved everyone at home is fine. The damage to our house was minimal."
Yang Guojian, a worker from Chengdu, Sichuan, said: "Expenses (to return home) is nothing compared to being able to help my countrymen with relief efforts." - CNA/ac
