SINGAPORE: Staff and students from Ngee Ann Polytechnic are pitching in to raise S$14,000 from its 14,000-strong student population for the victims of the Myanmar cyclone.

The two-day drive, called "A Dollar A Person", kicked off on Thursday. Supported by The Salvation Army, the message is that each dollar collected will make a difference to the Myanmar people.

Students have canvassed the poly grounds with The Salvation Army's red tin buckets to raise as much as possible for the victims of Cyclone Nargis.

The Salvation Army will be responsible for distributing the aid to the victims.

Chng Teck Sing, a student at Ngee Ann Polytechnic, said: "We really want to do something for these victims and according to (some reports), it seems there's another cyclone coming towards Myanmar's way.

"We felt that if we don't do something now and if the next cyclone comes, they will be in a worse state and even more people will die from the cyclone."
