SINGAPORE: Ong Boon Jun, the accomplice of Dave Teo - the national serviceman who stole a rifle from his camp in 2007 - had his appeal dismissed on Tuesday and must serve the six-and-a-half-year jail sentence and receive six strokes of the cane.

22-year-old Ong, a pimp, was convicted in February of being with Teo, who stole a military rifle and ammunition from Mandai Hill Camp.

Ong was sentenced for not reporting to the authorities Teo's whereabouts, especially when Teo had a rifle with him.

Ong appealed against the sentence saying it was manifestly excessive, but this was dismissed by the Supreme Court on Tuesday.

Ong's lawyer did not get to talk to his client, but said Ong was disappointed as he was hoping for a reduction in the sentence. - CNA/vm
