SINGAPORE: Some schools have cancelled cultural immersion programmes to China, following the recent earthquake in Sichuan province.

Students from Dunman High were scheduled to headed for Sichuan in June, for a two-week programme.

But their plans have been shelved following concerns over safety.

The school says a visit now would also be inconvenient because its partner schools are currently focused on rebuilding efforts in the affected areas.

Almost 100 primary five students from five schools under the Hokkien Clan Association have also postponed their exchanges.

The affected schools are Ai Tong School, Chongfu Primary, Tao Nan School, Nan Chiau Primary and Kong Hua School.

They have also cancelled their trip to Xi'an.
