SINGAPORE : Singapore's medical relief team has treated 500 cyclone victims since it started its mission in Myanmar on Saturday.

The team is working at a 50-bed hospital in the township of Twan Te, which is about one hour's drive from Yangon.

The Singapore team is also operating two mobile medical clinics, to provide medical support at relief camps and medical stations.

Most patients were treated for respiratory complaints, skin infections and gastroenteritis.

The team from the Ministry of Health is made up of healthcare personnel from various public hospitals and institutions.

It has linked up with members from the Singapore Red Cross and Mercy Relief to work under a unified Team Singapore.

The Singapore team brought with them 250 kilogrammes worth of medical supplies when they first left for Myanmar. Another 730 kilogrammes of medical supplies were sent to them subsequently.

Foreign Affairs Minister George Yeo visited the team on Saturday. - CNA/ms
