SINGAPORE : Some 3,000 people attended the funeral mass of former Catholic Archbishop Gregory Yong held at the Cathedral of Good Shepherd at Queen Street on Wednesday.
The 83-year-old died of heart failure on June 28 at the St Joseph's Home in Jurong, where he lived for the past four years.
He had suffered a heart attack in June 2000 and underwent bypass surgery. He later retired in October that year.
The former Archbishop was born in Penang, and had served in Malaysia before his appointment in Singapore in 1977.
The funeral mass was followed by the cremation at Mandai Crematorium. - CNA /ls
