SINGAPORE: Channel NewsAsia, which is owned by Singapore media company MediaCorp, will cut a new look for its viewers from July 7.

There will be more regional business news and news about Singapore for regional viewers.

Currently, the segment on Singapore Tonight comes on at 10 every night. Singapore Business Tonight follows next at 10.30pm. But things will change from Monday.

Asia Business Tonight will come on at 10.30 on weeknights, giving a round-up of the Asian business day. It will also provide the latest out of London as European markets head towards the closing bell, and news from New York as US bourses open for business.

Melvin Yong, Business Editor and Presenter, said: "There will be daily segments on stock picks, industry trends and even interviews with senior company management.

"Viewers these days are getting more sophisticated and more savvy and they demand more content that is more contextualised. So whatever business you're doing, in today's globalised world, you need to know what's happening not just in one economy, one region but also around the world."

Singapore Tonight and Singapore Business Tonight will be presented as one half-hour bulletin, starting at 10pm. And for the first time, the bulletin will also be shown to the region on Channel NewsAsia's International feed.

MediaCorp said the changes are being made in response to requests from viewers in countries such as Thailand, China, Vietnam and Indonesia, who have been asking for more in-depth content on Singapore. They are also looking for more coverage of business news.

The news belt begins at 10pm (Singapore/Hong Kong/Bangkok) with Singapore Tonight, followed by Singapore Business Tonight and Asia Business Tonight. - CNA/de
