SINGAPORE : Narcotics officers have nabbed four drug traffickers - three of them Thai nationals - in the latest sting operation carried out in the eastern part of Singapore on Wednesday night.

Also seized from several rooms in a hotel at Geylang Lorong 15, which they used as a drug hideout, was an assortment of synthetic drugs with a street value of over S$15,000.

Two of the Thai suspects are women aged 30 and 24. They are both jobless.

The third suspect is a 29-year-old male general worker who injured an anti-narcotics officer during a struggle to resist arrest.

The fourth suspect, who is believed to be their supplier, is a 43-year-old unemployed Singaporean with a criminal record.

About 33 grammes of "ice", 70 grammes of ketamine, 34 "Ecstasy" tablets, seven "Erimin-5" tablets and two weighing scales were seized from his hotel room.

If convicted, each man could be jailed at least five years and given five strokes of the cane, while the women each face at least five years' imprisonment.

On the same night, another suspect, a 28-year-old Singaporean waiter with a criminal record, was arrested outside the same hotel at Geylang. He was found in possession of a knife and is being investigated by the police. - CNA /ls
