BEIJING: Senior Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports, Teo Ser Luck, said Team Singapore members are fighting like champions at the Beijing Olympics.

He praised the Singaporeans' big fighting spirit at a reception for Singaporeans in Beijing.

Mr Teo was also confident that Singapore's women table tennis players have a good chance at a medal.

Mr Teo said: "They competed with a big fighting spirit and they really wanted to win and not just to participate. I think that kind of fighting spirit and mentality is a sign of a champion.

"I think there are signs of a champion in our Singapore women's team. I think they have a very good shot at the medal. I think Yue Gu or even Jiawei will also fare well in the singles event that will be coming up.

"I hope at least one of them will have a breakthrough and become a potential medallist for us." - CNA/vm
