SINGAPORE: Deputy Prime Minister and former Law Minister S Jayakumar has received top honours from the Singapore Academy of Law for his contributions to the nation's legal system.

The Honorary Member for Life and Fellow for Life honours were bestowed on Professor Jayakumar for his outstanding contributions as a policy maker and an academic.

The other four persons who have been conferred the title are Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew, Former Chief Justice Dr Wee Chong Jin, Dr David Marshall and Former Chief Justice Yong Pung How.

Professor Jayakumar was Singapore's Law Minister from 1988 to April 2008, making him one of the longest-serving law ministers of the Commonwealth. - CNA/vm
