SINGAPORE: Eating right, even if you are financially-strapped - that's the message of a new initiative by the Southeast Community Development Council.

Some families attended the Cook$mart Workshop on Saturday to learn how to cook a nutritionally balanced meal at less than S$4 a recipe.

In light of rising food prices, the initiative is targeted at families who are receiving financial aid, and especially those at risk of poor health and who are suffering from medical conditions such as hypertension or diabetes.

The workshop features a nutritional talk by students from the Food and Nutrition Faculty of Temasek Polytechnic, and a hands-on cooking session.

About 50 low-income families are expected to benefit from the programme this year. - CNA/de
