SINGAPORE: The University of Illinois and Singapore's Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) are setting up an Advanced Digital Sciences Centre at Fusionopolis, Singapore's newly opened research hub.
The research will be dedicated to interactive digital media and science & engineering.
The centre is the university's first outside the US, emphasising on its signature Human Sixth Sense Programme.
The programme focuses on the seamless integration of man, machine and the environment, such that inter-action with the digital world is as intuitive and natural as the use of any of the five senses.
The technologies expected to be developed from the research will have the potential to transform industries and services as Singapore moves rapidly into the digital age.
The programme is also expected to attract industry interest and create technology spin-offs. A*STAR said it would contribute significantly to Singapore's interactive and digital media thrust as well.
