SINGAPORE : Single character domain names such as www.a.sg and www.b.sg will be possible in Singapore come next year.
The Singapore Network Information Centre (SGNIC) will release single character domain names based on the 26 letters of the alphabet across all seven ".sg" categories, including .sg, .com.sg, .net.sg, .org.sg, .gov.sg, .edu.sg and .per.sg.
Those keen on buying such domain names can start applying from December 1 with any of SGNIC's accredited registrars. Each domain name costs a hefty S$20,000.
Applications will close on 9 January 2009.
SGNIC said while registration is open to all businesses, organisations and individuals, registered trademark holders will have priority over other applicants during this period.
But if there are many bidders, applicants will have to bid for the names with prices starting from S$20,000.
More information is available at SGNIC's website.
