SINGAPORE: Two of three charges against the wife of opposition politician Tan Lead Shake have been reduced.

China-born Wu Yun Yun had allegedly fatally stabbed her brother-in-law, Tan Lead Sane, in June, at the Paya Lebar house the two couples shared.

Tan Lead Sane's wife and Wu's mother-in-law were both injured in the attacks.

The murder charge has been reduced to culpable homicide not amounting to murder, while the charge for voluntarily causing hurt with a weapon to the mother-in-law has been reduced to a lighter charge of voluntarily causing hurt.

Wu's lawyer, Subhas Anandan, said the decision was finalised at a pre-trial conference last week on the grounds that his client had 'diminished responsiblity' for the crime.

A third charge of attempted murder remains.

The case will now be transferred to the High Court. It will be heard in February.

For the reduced charge of culpable homicide, Wu faces life imprisonment and a fine.

For the lesser charge of causing hurt, she could be jailed up to two years and fined up to S$5,000.

The charge of attempted murder carries a maximum sentence of seven years' jail and a fine.
