SINGAPORE: Hours after Finance Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam said hirings will be brought forward as part of counter-cyclical measures, the Home Affairs Ministry said it is looking to fill about 1,000 vacancies.

These vacancies are in all home team agencies - the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA), Police, Civil Defence, the Prisons Service and the Central Narcotics Bureau.

The largest number of vacancies available is in the Police Force, where 470 positions are available, followed by ICA with 300.

To give job applicants a preview of the careers available in the Home Team, the ministry will be launching a coordinated Home Team recruitment event next month.

Details of this event will be made known nearer to the date.
